Dwelling in a Vision of Possibility

We have more possibilities available
in each moment than we realize.

– Thich Nhat Hanh

Dear Friends,

As we begin the New Year it is hard to believe that the things we have considered important in the past will be more accessible in the future. The environment is rapidly deteriorating, our economic policies are exacerbating the gap between rich and poor and we running out of cheap energy to fuel our thirst for evermore technological gadgets and cheap conveniences. I predict that the things we once thought were important will loose their luster in the coming year. Old ideas and ways of being must always die to make room for the new.

The end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012, and other prophesies, have been interpreted by some to signify the end of life on earth or the end of time. Others have suggested that these prophecies mark the end of ego and our attachment to identity and form. Yes, we will most likely have some challenging times ahead, but I invite you to imagine with me what could be possible if we move into these unprecedented times with clarity of purpose and the resolve to give ourselves totally to a vision of what’s possible. Are we willing to stand in the face of monumental change and hold a vision of a new order of things, of a culture that honors all life and serves that vision? Are we ready to change direction from where we are heading?

A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.
– Rosabeth Moss Kanter

Upcoming Events

New Year's Gathering of the Tribes:
Occupy the One Heart

One of the many inspiring things about the Occupy Movement is the putting aside of differences to share with and learn from and about our brothers and sisters. Let’s have a different kind of New Years this year? We have opened things up to include other members and groups within our community and invite them to come be a part of our sumptuous pot luck dinner and conscious and grounded dance.

Children, adults, youth, ecstatic dancers, soul motioners, 5Rhythmns practitioners, liberals, conservatives, progressives and anarchists – all are welcome... Don’t we basically all want the same things: Peace, freedom to be, health, education for ourselves and our children, a roof over our heads, food to nourish us and an opportunity to be creative in expressing our unique and magnificent and unique gifts to the world.

For more information on this event, click here

This year will be the 11th annual St. Joseph’s New Year’s Eve and Day celebration. The event is open to all members of the community in order to expand our community connections and foster deeper understanding and relationship. This alcohol and drug free event has been a much-awaited yearly gathering for over a decade. It all begins with a sumptuous pot-luck dinner provided by the participants. (see flyer)

In this era of uncertainty and escalating change we come together to celebrate and co-create a community that honors and respects differences while sharing common interests. We especially want other dance, spiritual and service communities to join us in co-creating a real community affair. There will be many opportunities to share, sing, dance, create, relax, play and pray our way into the New Year. We hope you join us!

This is not your usual New Year’s party where over indulgence clouds our minds and numbs our senses. It is an artistic expression embracing our differences, similarities, interconnectedness, and common dreams. In the Occupy the Heart Sanctuary we offer free massages, comfortable lounging areas to meet with friends and new acquaintances, and art materials to create prayer flags, collages or other artistic expressions. It is a place to get away from the larger community and enjoy one on one conversations.

In the main hall we will enjoy great talent, music, movement and socializing with entertainment provided by international singer songwriter and Voice and Self-Expression Coach Maniko, the Earth Rhythms Dancers and Drummers, Michael Stone (aka DJ Divine), DJ Fieldtrip, Juliette Phyllis Kunin, and Kalyani. Different DJs will be sharing their music throughout the evening for your dancing pleasure. Profits from this event will go to support KVMR’s Conversations. Hope you will join us...

It is possible that the next Buddha will not take the form of an individual. The next Buddha may take the form of a community, a community practicing understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living.
This may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the earth.

- Thich Nhat Hanh

There is little question that we are moving into an era of great change and it’s time to appreciate the power of our perception. In a sense perception creates reality. This year’s special event will focus on opening the heart and holding a vision that honors all life. We will be moving into the territory of our dreams of unity and connection while creating a new reality and transforming our worldview.

As we move towards an interconnected earth based community, we will meet challenges that are unprecedented in all of history. It is important to hold a vision of what is possible and what we want to create for the future of the children of all species for all time. A world of happiness, fulfillment and connectedness is our birthright and we have the power to co-create that world… I hope you will join us in this inspiring and activating yearly gathering as we birth a new story into the world. Let’s make 2012 a year of Living the Dream!

New Year’s morning will start with gentle yoga and stretching with Suzanne Sanger. Suzanne is a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher Ayurvedic Practitioner and Bodyworker, Pancha Karma Specialist, Reiki practitioner and Pilates mat instructor. She has also studied and taught Kundalini Yoga and numerous forms of dance, movement and athletics.

Michael Stone will be leading a Special Sweat Your Prayers and movement meditation. Michael is the host and producer of KVMR’s Conversations, which brings you leading edge thinkers, authors and activists in the areas of Environmental Restoration, Social Justice, Evolutionary Cosmology and Spiritual fulfillment. Poetry Corner

For a New Beginning

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

- John O'Donahue
