"Celebration of Interdependence"
Relationships are all there is. Everything in the universe only exists because it is in relationship to everything else. Nothing exists in isolation. We have to stop pretending we are individuals that can go it alone.
— Margaret J. Wheatley
I want to express my deep gratitude to the close to 50 volunteers, and the approximately 300 people who co-created and attended the New Year’s Eve and Day Celebrations. Several thousand dollars were raised for Conversations on KVMR. I am deeply moved by the outpouring of support, the love and the inspiring and energetic interactions that took place…

It was an auspicious evening with not only a full moon, but a blue moon and a Lunar eclipse. Reflecting on the event, the love and attention put into the decorations, the delightful food, and the guest djs who contributed to the inspiring dance music, I wanted to thank all of you for your part and for the commitments you made to our community Declaration of Interdependence.
In my opening talk I offered this invocation:
May the power of these lunar forces (which for eons have represented the Divine Feminine) draw out the tide of love and compassion in us and move us towards a deeper connection with each other and the natural world. As we move into a new decade we have a once in a Blue Moon opportunity to create and celebrate a Great Turning towards an earth/human harmony that brings a rising tide, no, a Tsunami of peace, love and understanding into our world. May tonight be a night that ignites a fire in every heart and generates a rising understanding of the depth of our interconnectedness. Tonight we come to celebrate each other and our mutual inter-dependence!

Book of the Month
How to Thrive in Changing Times, by shamanic teacher and writer, Sandra Ingerman.
It is time for all of us to gather our energies together as a global community to create the world we want to live in —
a world that supports all life.
— Sandra Ingerman
There are some books out there that are a must read. This is one of them! Sandra’s new book presents us with the practical application of ancient shamanic principles that deal with the myriad of issues, problems and challenges of our time. Beginning with addressing the environmental pollution and degradation in our world as a reflection of our inner state of consciousness, she gives us a practical map, technology and exercises to change our inner landscape and become more effective in altering our outer world. Her practical spiritual practices teach us how to shift our thoughts, words and actions to bring forth a better life and world. If you are looking for access to both personal and global happiness, health and peace this is an essential book to read.
If we want to thrive on this planet of ours, we need to change the way we think and talk about life and the planet.
— Sandra Ingerman

Ice Melting Faster Everywhere
Alexandra Giese Earth Policy Institute
From the Arctic sea ice to the Antarctic interior and the mountainous peaks of Peru, Alaska, and Tibet, ice is melting at an alarming rate. The accelerating loss of ice sheets, sea ice, and glaciers is one of the most powerful and striking indicators of a warming climate.
The most notable ice loss in recent years has been the shrinking of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean. From the beginning of the satellite record in 1979 through 1996, ice area decreased at a steady rate of 3 percent per decade in response to rising temperature. In the following decade, ice area decreased by 11 percent, reaching a dramatic minimum in 2007. In September of that year, sea ice occupied only 3.6 million square kilometers, an area 27 percent smaller than the previous record low (in 2005) and 38 percent smaller than the 1979–2007 average. Summer sea ice coverage has increased slightly in the last two years, but it is still far below the long-term average.

Eco-Economy Indicators: Past Decade the Hottest on Record
Amy Heinzerling Earth Policy Institute
The first decade of the twenty-first century was the hottest since recordkeeping began in 1880. With an average global temperature of 14.52 degrees Celsius (58.1 degrees Fahrenheit), this decade was 0.2 degrees Celsius (0.36 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than any previous decade. The year 2005 was the hottest on record, while 2007 and 2009 tied for second hottest. In fact, 9 of the 10 warmest years on record occurred in the past decade.

Poetry Corner
TerraSedona
There is a place in me that remembers these ancient
sandstone shapes
Bold, red spires of rock absorbing the heat of hot, high,
desert days,
storing memories of the evolution of transitory things.
Deep tremors,
reveal patterns of change pulsing in a crimson wave
of coral sunset.
The black void of nightscape absorbs the cool evening shapes
into
the still silence of forgetfulness and the dark pupil of the
night’s eye
reflects an indifferent universe pierced by bright starholes
burning light
still flickering long past death, even before the birth of the
speaking ones.
We who have carved out our separateness in the symbols
of sound
measure our worth in the righteous differentiation of otherness.
We
who weep for union while conspiring for self-preservation.
We who
want to believe that we can direct the natural cycle of things.

Two Tramps in Mud Time
But yield who will to their separation
My object in living is to unite
My avocation and my vocation.
As my two eyes make one in sight
only where love and need are one
and work is play for mortal stakes
is the deed ever really done
for heaven and the futures stake.
